Artificial Intelligence is entering a new era where it doesn’t just assist us, it can act on our behalf. This white paper introduces Appointed Intelligence, a term defining AI systems designed as trusted delegates rather than mere tools. Unlike traditional automation or generic AI assistants, Appointed Intelligence represents a paradigm shift: these agents carry out tasks “on behalf of” a person or organization with autonomy, judgement, and accountability. What is Appointed Intelligence?

Appointed Intelligence is defined as a new class of AI designed to be identity-bound, autonomous agents that act as a delegate for a user with explicit authority and trust . In simpler terms, an Appointed Intelligence agent doesn’t just give you answers or recommendations, it takes actions on your behalf under your appointment. Crucially, this agent is vetted, auditable, and capable of discretion . It carries your intent with precision, exercising judgment as a representative would.

This concept differs markedly from existing AI paradigms:

• Versus Standard AI Assistants: Typical virtual assistants (like voice assistants or chatbots) respond to commands or queries but do not proactively execute decisions for you. By contrast, an Appointed Intelligence agent is elevated to operate with a degree of independence, you grant it authority to orchestrate outcomes rather than micromanaging tasks . For example, rather than telling it each step to book travel, you entrust it to handle the entire itinerary within your set preferences.
